Just recently installed some analog stations for patient use in my hospital, however the phones have access to overhead paging.

Is there a way to create a COR that would prevent access to the overhead paging feature?

My system (Definity G3SI) is setup to dial 61 and make an overhead page.

I have very limited understanding of CORs, so in-depth explaining would be appreciated.

The Class of Restriction (COR) allows or denies access to other CORs or system features. I assume that those that you want to have access to the paging are in a different COR than the patients. Loudspeaker paging has a COS assigned to the feature (display paging loudspeaker). You may need to change it if it's a common COR. On page 3 of the COR form is where you allow calls to different CORs. On the patient COR just change the field to 'n' for the COR used for paging. To test: put your phone in a patient COR and try dialing '61'.

Ah, ok.

So, disp paging loud says that '61' requires access to COR 1. So if I create a COR that has access to everything, but put a 'n' for 1, then that would disable access to paging for that COR.

Yes?

I would change the paging COR to something like 89. In the patient COR block them from dialing anything with a COR of 89. The admin folks should be able to dial COR 89 from their COR.

You could set up auth codes with COR. That way if people need to use the phones to page, they can enter an auth code, and then page...

Oh the chaos that would ensue.

Changing the page to require an auth code would be very messy.

Thanks for the advice folks.
