I am an Access developer that can't get an answer from my system people... XP is trying to synchronize Access databases and they don't seem to be able to stop it. I can't imagine why XP would want to treat databases the same as word docs and spreadsheets.

The databases close and the double blue arrows are visible. The database appears to be stuck... this is causing data to be lost and a lot of unhappy users not to mention me too!

How can this be prevented?

Assuming that the access database is on a networked drive, and XP is setup for offline files for that networked drive then all you need to do is change the settings. XP defaults to the whole volume, you need to change that to specfic folders not including the .mdb or .pst (another format it doesnt work with) files and the sync will work fine.

Thanks for the response...

SRotblat: Yes, the database is on a networked drive... and I am passing along your information to our system administrators so they can check the settings. Thank you.

bcastner: Thanks for the links, I am passing them along too.

I'll get back with any question they may have. But, from the sounds of what you're both saying, it shouldn't be a big deal since *.mdb files are excluded by default.
