I have searched here but perhaps have the wrong key words. I have a request from our management team and they want all phones in a small office to ring if an external caller presses Zero when the auto attendant answers. This is on an older MX 8X24 system with Startalk Mini. There is no single person to answer the calls and the same desks are not always occupied. We could also have a bell or other ringer as long as staff would hear it and be able to Pickup the call. If a bell/ringer, is it a specific Nortel item?

The people that installed indicate that this can't be done but a different office seems to have this enabled. We have tried to sift through menus to see what is different but no luck. They have been after us to upgrade to a BCM but with the economy over the past year, that will be a ways off.

Are we trying to do the impossible or do we just need a different support company? :)

Assuming you have DR5 software. I belive answer DN keys will do the trick. If not, this is the Guru's on this site will have some suggestions that you can review with your vendor.

Possibly an ATA for an auxillary bell ringer that can be rang on the same answer DN extension as the phones.

Link to manual :

Find a new vendor. Pretty simple stuff. Have the AA zero to an extension, then as avaya said, put answer dn's on everybody's phone for said extension. A bell on an ATA will work also. Any bell will do that rings when ring voltage is applied.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like there is a solution. Would it be possible to get a bit more detail? We have the manual but want to be sure we are doing the right thing.

As to other installers, two we have spoken to do not want to support this old hardware. A third sent over their Nortel expert to install a refurb VM system with more capacity and when it did not work, he disconnected it and was never seen again. Naturally, everyone would like us to buy a BCM.

You need to find a physical port on the phone system thats not in use and use it's DN/Ext # as your Zero out.
If your system is 8x24 than that is 24 ports/exts
If you DN/Ext starts at 221 then the highest is 245
Voice mail might use 245 and 244 so try 243 perhaps.

On voice mail:
AA/Table/1/Atdnt:221 and change it to your new DN/Ext# of 243

On phone system:
Configuration/Sets/XXX/LineAccess/AnswerDN
XXX= DN/Ext

When you press Show under Answer DN then add 243,do to each set that needs to answer.

Another way is to just assign an Answer DN key for reception set, problem is all calls to reception will ring at all sets and not just the zero out people.

Thnaks Curlycord:

went to site today to try and hit a bit of a wall.
Whne I go to AA/TABLE on the VM system I get the option of Morning, Afternoon, etc and the ability to change the greeting. Nothing like Atdnt. This is running Flash 2.5H if that makes a difference

Thnaks-I will be back tomorrow but I think we have bigger issues. Users called to say the attendant was not answering. I went back on site and the system does not respond to any programming. I have rebooted the VM system a number of times and still no access. I have it off and will restart it in the morning.

We have another site with similar hardware that also wants the same fucttionality but it is a four hour round trip. May get a chance to try there.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Still dead after being off. Reports Inactive feature when any F9xx is entered.

Clear out the Feature codes (F**XFTEST) and then reboot the voice mail. If it's still dead the HD is gone in the mini or you have no connection to the station port.

Sorry I thought it was a Flash not a Mini.

No it will not remove programming.

Does the power light go on? if not swap PS.
Do you hear the Hard Drive and does it sound scratchy?

Mini's have been failing like crazy last few years since they are over 10 years old and use a mini hard drive.

So dont waste too much time when a Flash is cheap.
