I have read extensively regarding the process of introducing a new hardware NW6 server into my small NW4.11 environment. DS on 4.11 is at 6.21, SP9, etc. After ensuring the health of the DS, I will extend the schemas on both 4.11 servers with NWdeploy. Will the 4.11 servers be happy running with this extended schema for any amount of time? I would like to let them run for at least a few days before installing a new server so as to ensure nothing is awry.

I don't think you should have a problem. Just make sure the NetWare 6 server is not part of the same replica ring as the 4.11 server. We were running a mixed 4.11,5,5.1&6 enviroment and the biggest problem we experienced was the DSsync between the 5.x,6 and the 4.11 servers.

If you extend the schema on the server holding the master replica of the root, it will filter down to the other servers.

In a healthy environment, I haven't seen any problems running mixed 4.11 and 6.x servers. Some people say to make the 6.x server master of [root], but that isn't really necessary. The main thing is that you have the latest DS on the 4.11 servers, and you've extended the schema through the deployment manager -- which it appears you've already done.

Thanks guys. The NW6 server that I will introduce into the tree will eventually hold the master replica. The server that it is replacing will eventually replace the one other server leaving me a two NW6 IBM servers. I may find a need to ask further questions.
