Hi
I'm a relatively new user to BE 9 and I can manage the job setups no problem, but I'm having a bit of an issue with preparing the DLT media. How do I prepare a DLT tape in W2K server for use with BE 9, do I do it in W2K mmc or BE 9 itself? What do I do when I get there? Would the same apply for re-using old tapes? I am not sure if media pools, media libraries, media catalogues, and media sets are all one and the same or if they are seperate components that I have to use. Idiots guides to tape prep on W2k server very gratefully accepted.

If I'm reading correctly your DLT is installed in your server. BE 9 should be installed on the server that either has the backup device installed or attached externally. During the installation of BE exec you will want to use BE drivers for tape devices. After installation is complete open BE go to Tools>Wizards>Device Configuration Wizard and it will verify that a backup device exists. Unless if its something installed in your server it will probably appear as a stand-alone device. You can verify the device udne Computer Management > Device Manager and you should see a Tape Device. After getting you tape drives setup load a tape and go into device tab and select the tape device and the media ashould appear in the left side, highlight the tape right click and run an inventory.

I have checked the device which is working OK. I have tried to run the inventory - I didnt know how long this would take so I left it overnight. When I checked it again I was able to eject the tape manually at the device but I have 3 jobs (Inventory, Catalog and Label jobs) in the Job Setup window. When I try to delete these I get a message that I cannot delete an active job - but I've taken the tape out and there was no activity on the drive! Also these jobs are not listed in the job monitor window
