Does anyone know the difference between the two file extensions? I have installed the latest version of cognos with power play and my reports are now being saved to the ppx extension as opposed to the my previous ppr. The files can be used and the only difference I can spot is that the ppx extension is a smaller file type.

ppx is a portable report format that allows you to use your report in Powerplay Client, Powerplay for Excel and Powerplay Enterprise Server, where as ppr files can only be opened in Powerplay client

Is there any advantage to using ppr reports? Wouldn't it just make more sense to use ppx reports at all times?
I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind even having ppr reports as an option.

The default option is to save reports as ppx I think ppr option is available for backward compatibility.
