ppp authentication

hi guys...
i am wondering if ppp authentication....would work between 2 routers if one router had

ppp authentication chap callin

and the other router does not have any authentication statement.but still it works. i wanted to know whether it necessary to give authentication statement on both routers....

Yes authenication needs to match on both ends for PPP in my experience.
