Here is the issue. I have MS Office XP Pro on a Toshiba Satellite 3005-S307. Running 2k server for SQL Dev.

All has worked okay in past but now, after installing Publisher and some other apps, kids played some games, etc., etc.

NVidia graphics card, driver downloaded from the Toshiba site. Removed, re-installed, yada yada.

In Powerpoint, all picture images (not WMF) or autoshape images show up as black on about 3/4 of the screen. In the lower-right, the images and shapes show up with their appropriate colors. Also, the property pages for autoshapes (fill color, line color) show up as black unless I move the property page down to the lower-right.

The preview of the slide and the screen show render propertly. I noticed that the area where everything is black correlates directly with the area on the screen that the screenshow appears when you select "Show Screen Show".

I'm thinking there is some bizarre setting I keep overlooking but cannot find it. Any help would be appreciated. Matthew Moran

You probably need to turn down your graphics acceleration setting.
Is it Happy Hour yet?

Go to View and check that Black and White is not checked, and that Slide Miniature is not checked

No luck!!! None of the above suggestions work. Here is a graphic of what is happening.

You can see in the slide edit screen, the entire slide background is a large image. I've placed 3 squares with a green fill in various areas. The black area covers the area that would be covered on a 800x600 screen (my screen is 1024x768).

Under slide show setup, if I change it to play on "Monitor 2" and then play the show, the show plays in exactly the area represented by the black area and plays properly (no black area). When it is set to play on the primary monitor, the show covers the entire screen and also plays properly.

The black area shows up only in edit mode. If I change my screen colors to 256 colors, the black area does not appear.

Changing hardware acceleration has no impact at all.

I stumped and don't want to (or have time) re-install the O.S. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
