I have a group of 5th graders that are working on powerpoint presentations. The files are saved in "Shared" folders in the computer lab and then they have access to them in their classroom (All computers Win98 & Office 97). Unfortunately there are now a few files that will no longer open. Powerpoint will start, but then it has an error,"powerpoint will not open files of this type." I have checked the properties of the file and it says MS powerpoint.

I don't know if the file has become corrupted or what. We warned the students not to have their documents open in more than one place. Is there anything I can do? I have told them to start over, but it is quite heartbreaking.

Thanks,
Caroline

Have you tried opening Powerpoint, and then from the File Menu, selecting Open and manually selecting the presentation. Do you get the same problem?

Have you confirmed that other existing powerpoint presentations will open on these pcs - or that the presentations that won't open on one pc, won't open on a number of pcs.

I did try to open it on another machine, but with same result. Other projects will open on the machines. I also tried File/Open, but has same error.

Also, tried all the tricks on the faq, but to no avail. Oh well, we will trudge along.

Thanks for the help,
caroline
