I have installed 3 Dell Poweredge 2600 servers with Windows 2000 SP2 and ARCserve as the backup software. One of the servers hangs intermittently. After reboot, the server may run anywhere from 8 hours to 4 weeks before the problem reoccurs.

Dell has replaced the motherboard and Raid key/dimm and had me upgrade to the latest raid firmware. I have ran all Dell diags with no errors and have installed Dell server assistant to track hardware errors (no errors found). Event viewer shows no sign of errors after reboot. System has been noticed to hang very occasionally when booting up.

I have tracked memory resources and process useage and everything appears fine. I can't install SP3 due to limitations of Cancer treatment software.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I resolved this issue. After first loading the Dell Open Manage server software, no errors were logged. However, lockups became more frequent and an ECC Single Bit Fault error was logged for DIMM 2 Slot B.

I ran the Memory Diagnostic utilities several times after this occured and all tests continued to pass. Replaced the Dimm that was creating the errors and the system is running normally up to this point.

Dell techs had mentioned that this fault usually causes blue screen errors. I never had any blue screens.

Thanks

I have startup errors on a Dell 2600. It stopped in the POST at the backplane.

I removed the hard disk drives and inserted the again and the system worked fine after that.
