I just bought components to build a new pc.
MB-Asus A7N8X-DX
CPU- AMD AXP 1700+
HS and CPU fan- AMD approved
RAM-512MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
PS- Codegen 350W
Case - Vid Card- Asus V9280/TD GeForce4 Ti 4200 8x 128MB
HD- WD Caviar 80.0 GB 7200RPM

ok now comes the problems. I installed MB in case and connected components. connected power supply. The standby LED lights on the MB. But I get no responce from the power button. The fan in the PS doesn't even start, or any others for that matter. All wires from case for power switch and reset are connected corectly. I have tried remove some, and all components with no change in status. I have also checked all jumpers pertaining to wake up (wake on usb, wake on kb, wake on lan) all disabled. And the CMOS jumper is in propper possition (not clear). Any suggestions, possible problems.

Also The first spacers I used when installing the MB may not have been thick enough possibly grounding it out against the case, would/could this have caused permanent dammage of this type.

Do you have access to another Power Supply to check that first ..

I guess if you think the motherboard has touched ground and you have applied power to it, they rarely survive.
I would "bread board" the motherboard.
Remove it from the case, place it on the motherboard box, fit just the CPU, fan/heatsink, memoryand graphics card, plug in monitor, keyboard, mouse and power cord.
Now it should post in this bare state (reset cmos to be sure)
Try another PSU by all means, a CPU and a stick of memory if you have spares but the motherboard looks most suspect. Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

Can you test the PSU with a voltmeter to ascertain if it works now. If so then your problem is elsewhere, if it doesn't work, did it ever? Change it and try again. Regards
Phil

Another (any maybe simplest) thing to try - on your mobo, connect your reset button wires to the power switch connector. Since this is only a momentary switch, either case button will work for turning on the power. This would rule out a bad power switch on the case.
