My building just informed me that they are ready to test a new generator that was installed. I would like to power down my Electra Elite system before this happens and swith it over to our own UPS. Can anyone tell me the proper procedure for powering the system down and then back up. Also am I in danger of losing any programming or messages while the system is down? If not how long will the programming keep while system is powered down? Thanks in advance.

The data base programming on the processor should be good for about a year without power connected. You will not lose any messages if you are talking about voice mail as these are stored on the hard drive of that device.
Do you have the VM in the Elite system or is it an external VM in a pc?
The power down procedure can be different if you have the built in VM.

If built in battery on the CPU is working, you have nothing to be concerned about loosing the programming. If the battery is bad, you will lose all the programming. If it has/or you have a MIF card, you can back it to a pc.

You should take the cover of the cabinet and make busy the VM card with the small switch before powering off at the main switch on the front of the cabinet.
ctvi right. If the back up batteries are in place and still in good shape you can just pull the power cord from the wall and it should stay on line for at least 30 minutes.

By the way the backup batteries I'm talking about are located in the bottom left hand corner of the cabinet. I just asked one of my associates and he says the system should be able to run at full capacity for 30 minutes if the power cord is pulled.

There is also a green battery strapped to the cpu. If that battery goes bad, then you will lose your programming even if your system is shut off under 30 min.

I have worked with nearly 100 Elites and have seen only one go bad so it is a remote possiblity.

If you want to be perfectly secure, make sure you have a MIF card and back it up to a PC. It makes sense to have a MIF card in stock for those customers who do not have one. You can put it in, back it up and once you finish the job, take it back.
