I have a Cisco WS-C6509 with two Sup720, 3 PoE Cards WS-F6K-FE48-AF... IOS Version 12.2(17d)SXB6

I changes the interfaces to use power inline auto (for avaya VoIP Phones), or power inline auto max 15400, or power inline static max 15400, or whatever I set to it, and it works fines, but just after the Switch reload, the interfaces always goes back to "power inline auto max 7000" (if I set to Auto) or "power inline static max 7000" (if I set it Static).

Does anyone know the reason for this behavior?

Thanks,

Angel

Do you do a

router#wr mem

or

router#copy run start

after the changes?

Burt

Yes, I have issue Write mem and Copy running-config startup-config.

Worst, if I run show startup-config, it shows me the interfaces are configured as I saved (what I want it to), but always starts applying the power inline auto|static max 7000.

Make sure your power inline default is set as 15400 . Maybe the default is currently set as 7000.

conf t
power inline consumption default 15400

Because in the show runnning-config it is showing

interface FastEthernet9/1 (Example interface)
no ip address
switchport
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
power inline auto max 7000
end

but startup-config shows:

interface FastEthernet9/1 (Example interface)
no ip address
switchport
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
!

I think this is causing the switch to deny power to the avaya phone, because it needs the 15.4W to operate...

Angel

Hi, "power inline" is not available in my switch...

Angel

Are you sure your power supplies on the 6509 can support all the cards in the node and provide 15.4W to all 458 ports?

show power total ->Displays the total power available from power supplies.

show power used ->Displays the total power budgeted for powered-on items.

show power inline ->Displays the inline power status

If that is your issue turn off inline power to a few POE ports until you can distribute 15.4W to the rest, then contact your reseller to quote you with the correct power supplies.

Let us know.

I don't think is a power issue, maybe is an issue with this IOS for the IEEE class 3 device (15.4 Watts), I have 2 WS-CAC-3000W PS in combined mode, total power is 3780.00, used power 2257.92 approx, available power 1522.08, BUT, to check if you are correct I have turned off 4 modules, and checked again to see what happened after reload and it goes back to 7W for each port, total power available after that was 2700W (that should support over 150 ports), however, if it is a power issue, why the phones are working when I manually change the port to 15.4W?

This maybe is a IOS issue for the IEEE class 3 device, but I am sure, this is not the case, I know I am missing something, but WHAT?

If you have SmartNet, you can look in the Bug Toolkit...

Or even better, start a TAC case. Can you post a sh ver?
