Power Failure, Password fails

I have Partner ACS and Voice Messaging both release 7.0 installed at my church office. The system worked flawlessly for several years after I installed it with some help from this forum. On Saturday the "replace batteries" message displayed on ext 10 and before I was able to get to church to replace the batteries there was a thunderstorm that caused a power failure. The system will make calls and accept calls, but the voice messaging just says 'forwarding your call" calls and I believe they ring on ext 10.
I am able able to access the messaging system through the LAN PC interface. However when I try to connect to the ACS system through the serial interface the system will not accept the password. This password is of course different from the messaging system password. I have backups for both ACS and messaging systems, but without being able to connect to ACS I do not know how to go about restoring. Perhaps that is not even possible. I have tried #728 without any discernible affect. I have tried #403 to remove password, but that does not seem to help either. My ignorance regarding this system is profound.
Any suggestions for how I could get the system functioning again would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Pete

Do you have the back up on a PC card in the processor? You could do a restore from that. I think it was like #124 or right around that. so from ext 10 or 11. feature 00 left intercom 2 times and then #124, #125. it has been a long time since i have worked on one. I know it is in the 12x range

If you have it backed up to PC card it's #125 to restore, don't do #124 it's to backup and since there's nothing on the ACS it will wipe out anything yoiu do have backed up.
And your partner messaging should be ok as is once ACS programming is restored!

partner is simple enough , I would just spend 20-30 min or so programming with a phone

The #125 instantly brought the system back to life seemingly in the same state as just before the failure. I am indebted to you all. This forum must be the highest quality support facility on the web. I would like to thank all of you for responding so helpfully and quickly.

The password in #730 was wiped out as well. Put ANYTHING in there, and you will be able to connect through the serial port and upload your saved configuration file. After you restore, the password that is stored in the configuration file will be back in place.

"Enter" button (4th column, 3rd button down from the top)
Feature 00

Now your password is "A"

Due to problems with the initial R7 software release, Avaya modified the ACS processor's software so that it would boot up off of the configuration stored on internal memory.

The change, basically, reduced the function of the backup batteries to just keeping the message from appearing on the displays @ EXTs 10 & 11.

If your processor is running the "E" software, I would strongly suggest either getting the processor flashed to the final R7 release or maybe upgrading to an R8 processor which adds some nice features over the R7. [thumbsup2]

You can check what the processor's software release is by simply pressing "FEATURE 5 9" at any system phone with a display.

The display will read something like PACS R7.0 91x where the "x" is the release. Adding an external Backup/Restore PCMCIA and saving known working configurations to both the internal memory and the PCMCIA is another way to ensure that the programming will be available.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.
