Hello,
My network sits behind an AT&T manged checkpoint NG firewall. All DNS Servers for all machines are AT&T dns servers. The network is currently NT 4.0, I will soon be upgrading the pdc to 2000 and installing an internal DNS server. I was hoping to set up DNS forwarding and still use the AT&T dns for external. Will I run into complications if i make these changes and leave Exchange 5.5 running on an NT 4.0 BDC in the newly upgraded windows 2k mixed mode environment?

I see no problems there, I used to work with a similar setup for about two years. Your 5.5 sits on NT srv so it already has DNS configd in TCP/IP properties and nothing further is required. Configure dhcp server to point all other dyn clients to your new local Win2K DNS and use outside forwardes to resolve names.

Thanks N0ktar, for a moment all seemed possible, then as i was reading further I now wonder if my other "outsourced" functionality is going to interfere with my plan. I have 3 or 4 different domain names registered for my company. All of the DNS, mx records are handled by an outside company, and all mail is sent first to an outside vendor who screens it, then sends it through our firewall to the exchange server. internally i will have only one domain, one that is totally private. Will this set up force me to handle all dns control inside and make me include all of these "mail only" domains within my win2K network?

I think (i hope) i should be OK because all of the "mail" domains will just have their mx records pointing to our mail screener servers, who will then send all mail to one machine.
