Hi,

I've just bought a used 1.7Ghz P4 pc, and i plugged it in to run and it just Beeps 3 times at me and then nothing,

Can anyone help!

thanks

Probably a RAM or video card problem.
Reseat both components making sure they're fully seated.
If no luck, then remove the RAM and video card, wipe their contacts with minimum 91% pure alcohol and a soft, clean cloth, and reinstall.
If still no good, then swap out the RAM and video card.

Thanks for the Advice ill give it a go once i get back from work,

It all depends on how the 3 beeps are heard.
3 continual beeps is faulty memory. You need to reset the memory and dust the pins.
1-2 Video adapter failure. Reset the card back into the agp or pci slot then try it. If the card has a fan on it make sure it's working not overheating. If it's an agp make sure the locking mechanism is locked.

Tell me if that works?

Hi all,

Thanks for the help,

i tryed replugging the video card in and it still made the beeps, so i tryed the graphics card from my main PC in it and it still made the beeps, i've tryed the memory in different slots and it still made the beeps. i've dusted the pins and it still makes the beeps,

i think im going to try some different RAM in the slots, unfortunatly this pc is running SDRAM and my main PC is DDR so i've got to try and source some before i can test this theory, does this sound valid or is there something else i could try?

thanks again

Matt

My advice, look on the board for the name of the bios. Then look up the actual bios beep codes. Then try what the beep code sheet says is wrong.

If you tried each existing SDRAM module one at a time in all of the slots, then installing different known working SDRAM will determine if the existing RAM is bad.
