Possible Transaction Cut

Hello, yesterday we stumbled upon what seems to be an half finished operation but instead of rolling back it committed
half of the data, for all i know this shouldn't happen, my own opinion is that the users screwed up with the front end or the components in the middle tier went crazy (they are DCOM,COM+) but still i want to discard the server as responsible. The main problem is that the operations were made almost a month ago.

Any idea, or i am completely crazy?

Are you using Buffered Logging ?

If application, they may have amount set to commit. Example could be commit after say 10,000. I would check that first.
