Dear all,

Im in a strange situation right now and would sincerely appreciate any suggestions on the issue.
We are using Veritas Netbackup for backing up our 5 servers but prior to veritas we used to use ArcServeIT ver 6.61.
Now, i was wondering if we could use arcserveit 6.61 to backup client data on a local server and then using veritas to back up that to the tape using our autoloader.
We are in this mess because veritas is charging us hell lot of money to increase the number of licenses so that we could include our clients directly.
As far as I could see, arcserveit ver 6.61 does not back up data on a local disk but only on tape. Am I right?

Thanks very very much for your time,
-Jyoti

You can backup to disk by creating a copy job within Arcserve.

Hope this helps

As frdba said a Copy job is the only way.

Setup a target directory for each system. A Prune job can be run to delete the contents of the directories prior to the next days Copy job.

Down side is this method will get the data only and not System State.

You can use copy to transfer files from one share to another but you can also use filesystems to backup too as you would do tape media. This is configured in device configuration wizard/filesystems - When Arcserve backs up it will create a file with a .ctf extension per session.

Thank you all, I really appreciate this!!

I'll give it a shot and will get back to you with my findings.

Thanks a ton,
-Jyoti

@richw1234 You can't configure a file system device with the version of ARCserve Jyoti has here, that feature wasn't introduced until ARCserve 2000.

It worked!!

Thank you very much guys and please pardon me for my lack of basic knowledge of ArcServe.

Thanks again,
Jyoti.
