Hi.

I bought 3 USB blue tooth dongles for £5, they work perfectly well for everyday use and I couldn't be happier.

However...

I have a proximity lock program that locks and unlocks my pc when I'm a certain distance from my PC and with these dongles having the range of 100m means that I have to walk down 2 flights of stairs and out into the garden in order for the lockout to commence, same for walking back, I'm a good 2 minutes away and the PC has already logged in.

I'd like to be able to crank down the range (without wrapping the dongle in foil) and wondered if it can be done. It seems to be harder to find devices with a shorter range, esp. at the very reasonable price I paid for these.

Anyone had this issue before?

Cheers,

Jon

This is not the technical fix you want, but why not just lock the workstation as you get up to leave and unlock when you return. It seems you're trying to solve a non-technical problem in a very technical way.

Or a 1 minute screen saver would do it, but that's more annoying.

Goombawaho, if only it were that simple! I need to be able to secure certain workstations down to certain users' mobile phone MAC addresses - if the device isn't paired, you don't to use the workstation.

use an extention to mount the adaptor inside the case, or better use an internal USB slot if you have one, the case will steal your range like billy-o and you gain tamper resistance - result

Try wrapping one of them in tin foil. Preferably the one you have in your pocket. That should limit the distance to a couple of feet.

Just my 2¢
