We're running a Mitel 3300 with Mitel Communications Director 5.0 and 5224 IP Phones. We've been having an issue on conference calls. It's easy enough to add a user to the call, but sometimes a member of the call will be travelling in an area with poor cell service and their call will get disconnected mid conference-call. The problem is when that call gets dropped, that line starts to do a continuous beep on the conference call (similar to a phone off the hook too long).

Is there a way we can selectively drop that one line from the call? Currently we have to end the call and start it over to stop the beeping from the dropped call.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Conference Split

Description
Conference Split lets you separate a 3-party conference so that you can speak privately with one of the parties. While you are speaking privately with one party, the other party is on Consultation Hold.

Conditions and Feature Interactions
[ul]
[li]Split cannot be activated from a telephone when:[/li]
[li]the attendant is involved in the conference[/li]
[li]a member of the conference has a party on Consultation Hold[/li]
[li]the conference is on Hold[/li]
[li]a member of the conference has a party camped-on[/li]
[li]members of the conference belong to the same Key System Group[/li]
[li]you are in select features or display mode[/li]
[li]there are more than three members in the Conference.[/li]
[li]When Override is used to bring a party into the Conference, that party will be able to use Conference Split.[/li]
[li][/li]
[/ul]
Programming
If you intend to use a feature access code in Operation, assign a code to Conference Call Split in the Feature Access Codes form.

It says that a 5224 needs to press a split key, I believe that will be one of the softkeys at the top.

Then you can trade to talk to the remaining caller.

I'm not sure how you might disconnect one a retain the other but you can play with that.

Can you not end the conference putting the individual parties on hold and then just add them back in? Don't know if it will work but worth a try?

Ending a Conference and Placing all Parties on Hold
You can end a conference and place all conference parties on Individual Hold, allowing you to
toggle between the held parties and speak to one party at a time.
To end a conference and place all parties on Individual Hold:
Press the Conference button, and then press (Hold). CONFERENCE PARTIES
ON HOLD appears.
To toggle between the held callers:
Press (Hold) twice for internal parties or the applicable Call Key button for external
parties.

@Wireman50, where do you find this conference hold thingy. I'm searching the Help docs with your text and nothing is coming up.

I'm interested because I was unaware of that function and I'm checking because I want to make sure it's applicable to a 5224 set.

Ending a Conference and Placing all Parties on Hold" is a feature of the 5000 platform (not 3300) and is included in feature descriptions of 5000 system compatible phones (8660, etc.).

Thanks libellis, I am not quite as up to speed on the 5000.

Truthfully, either was I, but figured if you hadn't found it on the 3300 maybe the post had been inadvertently misread by wireman50. Took a look at 5000 compatible phone literature, and the feature - with the associated text shown on a phone's display when active - was there.

Many systems explicitly provide a drop conference participant feature - recognizing its utility - and some don't. No perfect system out there.

Ah, yes apologies looked at the wrong document...sorry chaps.

Thanks for the replies so far. I've tried the conference split mentioned above. When the conference call is only 3 parties, the Split softkey appears, however once the conference call is 4 parties or greater (which ours almost always are 4+ parties), there is no Split softkey. Unfortunately placing the call on hold doesn't allow any options to split or drop callers on the 3300.

Are there any other possible options? Your help is appreciated!
