We are migrating from Avaya Definity to Cisco CallManager. Our users currently have a large number of busy indicators on their phones (buttons that light up when an extension is in use). Many of the users do not want a shared line appearance because they do not want people to be able to pick up their lines, and don't want to make every call private. Is it possible to make a DN appear on another phone only to show if the phone is in use or not?

Thanks very much!

We just installed Cisco Call Manager and this is a major short coming...

I had originally been told several years ago that the reason that Cisco couldn't do things certain ways was because of patent issues, but there are features like this available on the CME platform, so I guess they are just dragging their feet. I don't understand why they are so slow in implimenting a basic, but much desired, feature like this.

As far as I know, this feature (Busy Lamp Field, Monitor button in cme) will be implemented in CM 5.0. Unfortunately this will help little with old deployments, especially when using mostly 7940s.
I would suggest, that you look into a software package called "andphone" by the german company andtek.
It provides a Busy Lamp field using the ipphonestatus xml object. While it needs an extra server, it is very resource friendly und yould could most likely run in on some other server.
We have been using it for several months now: now problems, works with extension mobility and users are loving it!
You can get a 30day trial version from andtek.

I checked out Andphone, but did not see any pricing info. About how much is this product?

Thanks,
Mark
