Possible to change the DN range on a Nortel Meridian CICS/MICS without defaulting system?

I have a customer who needs to change their DN's from the default range (starting at 221) to another range (like 321). There are no DID's programmed on the system, so that is not an issue. I know that doing a **startup will allow me to change the start DN, but I'm looking to accomplish this without dumping the memory. Any ideas? Also, is there a way to switch over the mailbox numbers on the Flash VM to accommodate the new DN's? Thanks in advance.

There is no "range change" type options aside from the Start DN method you know about.

However you can change the DN's one at a time.

How would I go about changing them individually? Do you mean through the setting in System Programming > Change DN? Because I'm pretty sure you can only swap current extension numbers in there..

You can change the dn to any valid extension number, usually in the 200 - 300's range. As for the mailboxes, you could change the extension number assigned to the mailbox, but without deleting and creating a new one the actual mbox number would still be the old number, (mbox 221 ext 321).

One problem I see is if you renumber your DN's and change the DN assigned to all current mailboxes, people will have to remember to dial the mailbox number instead of the extension when using F986 to transfer callers directly to a user's mailbox. In this case it would be best to just transfer to the extension and let forwarding direct calls to the correct mailbox.

Thanks for the responses guys. What I'll likely do is just swap the extension numbers using "change dn's" and then tell the receptionist she can only transfer to the extension itself, and not the mailbox. Thanks again.

If any issue with not being able to do that then you could create the new mailboxes then they could transfer/copy "must save" messages over to the new mailbox.

After you change all your dn's you should reboot the vmail. A lot of the time it doesn't recognize the dn change which leads to you not getting into the right mbox.

Don't forget wholesale change DN can come back to bite you. The older the MICS gets the more prone it is to defaulting in a power failure. Take a back up when you're finished or you're in for a world of hurt trying to put it back together.
