POS Resellers and Partnerships

I was wondering if any of you are POS resellers and if you've ever worked with 3rd party companies to distribute their products.

I am building a custom solution for the POS industry and I am trying to figure out the most cost effective way to scale it here in Texas.

Do any of you have suggestions on how to do this and does something like this have to go through corporate? What are the typical terms?

One example that comes to mind is Dinepoint or Tabbedout

I am a reseller but am the tech side of the partnership. We sell 3 POS systems. The process is generally by email to the vendor with the license details, depending on how they license. Aldelo is weird and illogical. We get response within 2 hours and are able to license almost immediately. Aldelo charges CCard before issuing, 2 of the companies charge the company CCard. We generally make about $200 per license and make our money on hardware and services.

One company also has atemp license method that can be used for 2 months, based on site name + expiry + license code being validated in the software (no internet required), and by the end of the 2 months you will have replaced the license with a HASP key.

Everything is always to the coprorate.

Thanks for getting back to me. That is kind of what I was looking for. Ideally I would like to know what the procedure is if i wanted to approach a reseller and have them assist me with distributing / selling my POS software package. Kind of like a join partnership. I know for Micros and Aloha you have to go through corporate but for other POS systems can you go straight to the reseller?

If your add-on software is plug and play, and a pos reseller can resell it and make money then you can go straight to the resellers of any pos package.

If your software has to be custom coded to interact with each individual pos package and you have to access their code to do so, then you will have to apply to the pos software manufacturers for their SDKs and usually pay a fee to do so.

Its a big blurry line. If you are accessing a DB / system, the maker of the software may need to be contacted, disclosure forms signed, money change hands or whatever. There are a lot of people looking to access through various vendor APIs. Some charge, some dont. I guess the difference is how large your target market is. I do one offs (like specialised accounting extracts or payroll extracts, reports).

We are vendors for 3 POS software. One is closed to development. One will allow access through their channel free of charge but must sign disclosure statement, and third will allow access to a separate DB and charges based on the size of your potential market. Micros charges 10k USD for theirs.
