I programmer for a technology company that is developing some hardware to automatically detect and ring up drinks at a bar as they are poured. I'm investigating what's involved in integrating our hardware with POS systems (Micros and Aloha etc..). I need two-way communication with the POS to ring up sales and generate reports.

Can anyone point me in a general direction on how this is done, what interfaces are there (serial, TCP/IP), is there any standard specification between different manufactures of POS's, where to find specifications?

Thanks,
- Jim

Ours is also wireless liquor product. I'm looking for information on how to integrate with existing POS's like Micros and Aloha. Specifically what kind of interface do they use and is there a specification available on the net somewhere.

Aloha and micros are two different animals. I know Easybar interfaces with micros and berg with Aloha. What you may have to do is get your hands on copies of the pos software and make it work in your own lab. We have contracted out programming work for our Aloha systems such as fingerprint readers and custom reports. Once you right a custom interface that is worth a crap and a dealer buys it, you will be good to go. I know in the Aloha arena the dealers are close and when one finds a third party product that works they will reccommed it to the others. Sorry, but i am not a programmer and can't help with what you actually need to do.
