Hello All,

I have a developer complaining to me that the port his application will utilize 1414 does not exist when he does a 'netstat -a|grep 1414'.

I told him that the server is oblivious to the ports being available. Most likely the application that will utilize that port is not installed/setup.

Am I wrong w/ my assumption above? Please advise. I need reassurance.

Thank you,

A port doesn't exist until an application opens it to listen for incoming connections, or make an outgoing connection. If he does a [tt]netstat[/tt] and doesn't see it, that's a good thing. That means another application isn't using it and it's probably available for use.

thank you sam. i appreciate your response. so my assumption is probably correct. he needs to install his app. lol

thank you,
