Hi Everyone:

I am facing a problem with mirroring.I have mirrored two ports to one.Now when I give the option <->portX and <->portY. there is no data on the monitoring port. also one directional x and y doesnot work where as one directional x OR Y work.
Can anyone suggest how to do bydirectional mirroring.
Can this be version limitation.. I have 2.5 version.

thanks in advance

Mavvy

Even though it shows the settings for doing both, I do not believe that the BPS2000's OR the 8600 series switches, do bi-directional port mirroring. I have seen that it is being addressed in coming software releases though.

Yes I too think the same way, even the one directional two ports mirroring with AND is not possible in version 2.5.
whereas the bidirectional is possible if we mirror only one port.
correct me if I am wrong

An excert from the release notes:

Release Notes for the
Business Policy Switch 2000

Due to hardware restrictions, when using one-way/bidirectional conversation
between port X and port Y, unknown, multicast, and broadcast frames are not
mirrored to the monitor port when ports X or Y are in full duplex.

Was wondering if that could be your issue.

My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my knowledge.

Regarding the PP86000 port mirroring.
Nortel had to respin the OCTAPID and RATORU ASICS to allow Ingress and Egress port mirroring.
This is now available on host cards with E on the end, ie 8616GTE.
