I am trying to use utorrent, but the port forwarded to it is not opened(according to the µTorrent Port Checker). I am not connected to a router, but rather to a dsl modem(speedstream). I've found bunch of articles on portwarding with routers, but none for modem(do modems even need to portforward?). What can be the problem here?
Thanks in advance

A simple modem does not check for ports, and therefore can't block one. If that DSL modem also has routing functions it can, you'll need the manual for that device.

The port could also be blocked by your ISP.

Have you asked the uTorrent people for help?

i don't think that my modem has any functions to block ports. And I could just randomly choose ports and it would still be blocked. I have not asked utorrent yet, but i've read some articles from them pertaining to portforwarding on routers. Is there anything else that could be blocking the port?

If you're running a firewall on your pc try disabling it and see if the port is now available. If so you need to allow that port in your firewall software.

Yep, Check your computer for any firewall enabled. It can be Windows firewall, Antivirus with firewall feature, etc. Disable them temporary and try again. By the way, as what LawnBoy said, you need to allow utorrent traffic to go through the firewall if you enable it.

Good luck..

i turned off my firewall and allowed utorrent traffic, but it still gives me the error. i'm using kaspersky internet security. what could be wrong?

Have you tried looking up port forwarding in the user's Manual? I suggest a test of disabling your antivirus and/or kapersky and seeing if that works.

thanks for the help, I have already solved the problem. It seemed like my modem supports port forwarding as well.

FYI: The Speedstream is a modem/router combo appliance. By default the router functionality is enabled.

The speedstreams also default to give out IP addresses via DHCP that are 192.168.x.x/16.
