Already using some great tools to block popups while I'm online, but now I've noticed that after I close all my browser windows (IE6) I get tons of popups - credit card offers, screensavers, software, etc. What's causing these and how do I get rid of them? I've already killed spyware, deleted cookies and done virus scans. Any other suggestions?

Thanks, but messenger is already disabled. The popups I am getting are not the gray windows with text. They are actually IE windows with graphics, text and links.

Hmm...what methods have you used to "kill spyware" thus far?
One will seldom do the trick. I'd recommend running down the litany enumerated in this faq608-4650
Then, if you're still having problems, post a Hijack This! log in forum760

First Things first go to add/remove programs first and then start running spyware guildlines through the forum's that Carr posted..

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far. This is really frustrating since I have to spend a few minutes closing all the popups that come up one at a time after I close my browser.

I already went through Add/Remove and got rid of applications I don't need. The files that I am unable to get rid of are Internet Optimizer and PerfectNav which are used for web search sites. I even tried renaming the file and deleting it but that didn't work either. I use Ad-Aware and Spybot to kill spyware. All file-sharing options are disabled in any peer-to-peer applications. The other fixes on the FAQ page didn't seem to do anything. I'm just at a loss for what to do...

Thanks carrr, the Spy Sweeper seemed to do the trick. SpyHunter wouldn't let me remove the files directly in the application since I didn't have a paid subscription, but it helped me find the reg keys to delete. There is still a bit of spyware I can't seem to get rid of from "Belgiandip" - it brings up popup ads for screensavers. Deleted all the registry keys for Belgiandip that were listed in Spy Sweeper and all the files I could find. Don't know where else to look. Should I just leave things alone since the post-surfing popups have stopped?

Actually, the registry for Belgiandip didn't delete. When I opened reg editor again it reappeared. I deleted it again and later it reappeared. What does this mean and how do I get it to stay deleted?
