Popping audio with GS250

I'm attempting to capture from a Panasonic GS250 MiniDV camera via Firewire using Premiere Pro 1.5. In certain spots on my tape, I'm getting some slight audio distortion and a lot of loud popping noises when I try to playback or capture (captured clips have the same audio problems). I also hear constant loud popping when I play-fast-forward or play-rewind my tape with the shuttle.

I only have this problem with the GS250; when I use my school's GL2, Premiere plays back my tape and captures perfectly. When I use the same tape in my GS250, I get the aforementioned audio problems in Premiere. Tried using the trial version of Premiere Pro 2.0; same problem.

WinDV can get a capture from the GS250 with no audio pops (though without Premiere's image capture quality).

Any ideas? I'm pretty desparate.

Thanks,
Jamie

Ey up mate,

just a stab in the dark, but,

1. have you tried cleaning the tape heads?

2. Is the Audio rate set right when you are importing the clips? i.e. 12bit or 16bit for your cam?
