Hi,
I try to start ipop3d by /usr/sbin/ipop3d and i get:
+OK POP3 myhost.mydomain.com v2000.69rh server ready

But it doesnt start.
Does anyone know how to start it manually, not from xinetd. Right now im not running xinetd so I am trying to start it manually. Everything works great if xinetd is running. Everything works except pop3 when xinetd is off.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Well that message is telling you that it is running. I don't know how ipop3d works and there doesn't seem to be any man pages for it so I'm not sure if it keeps running when you close your terminal window. You might try qpopper. It can be set up to run as a standalone server or from xinetd. It's very easy to set up. Once you untar it, you just type these commands from the new directory :

./configure --enable-standalone (configures it to your machine)

make (makes popper)

make install (installs it to /usr/local/sbin/)

Then just set it up to start on bootup and that's all there is to it.

Hey RhythmAce,
I did as you suggested and no joke on how easy it was. You saved me a great deal of time. Thank you so much for your help.

Hey,
Sure if you tell me how to do it and what a vote is.
Thanks again
