OK i setup a 2003 server with the pop3 client installed. It worked for 2 days then i did an update on my dns server (which is a linux box) now i can not recieve email. Just says when someone send me email is server denied. I can send email but not recieve. I dont know if the update to my dns server had anyhthing to do with it or it was just perfect timing. My website still works and my name is resolving to the right ip address. Any suggestions on why i cant recieve email.

thanks

Check the peoperties of the SMTP Virtual Server in IIS. Make sure that it is set to allow Anonymous Authentication.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Ok i unchecked the windows intergration but still gives me the error message

(Transcript of session follows ----- <test@mydomain.com>... Deferred: Connection refused by mydomain.com.
Warning: message still undelivered after 4 hours Will keep trying until message is 5 days old)

any other suggestions

Thanks

OK, so let's make sure we are talking about the same failure here. Is the message being sent from outlook but just not leaving the server?

That is what it sounds like. Make sure you have an RDNS entry configured.

If the above is not the case and the message can't be sent to YOUR server, then check the properties of the SMTP server and verify the allowed IP addresses. Set it to allow your subnet.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Ok I can send out email from my server but i can not recieve email from other people. I hope that clarifies things. I will look into the RDNS.

Thanks

I went under Default SMTP Virtual server properties, clicked on access, then on relay, rely restrictions are all except the list. The list is blank so all should work. Also checked marked is allow all computers who autheticate regardless of list.
When you say RDNS are you talking about reverse DNS on the DNS server.

it is similar but different. One box is using the server 2003 pop3 services which is at my house. The other problem is using exchange 2003 and is at my office. Thanks for pointing that out i didnt relize that i had two similar problems. The exchange box has been up for over a year with no problems until we tried to add this second domain.

The PoP3 box is a fresh install with nothing added in.
