Pop up window on login for users 2

Hi,

We have a Windows 2000 server which is our domain controller and all of our clients machines are running Windows 98.

When our users log in we have a script that connects them to the relevant shared folders on the network.

We also want to have a pop up window that reminds our users of our company security policy and asks them to press OK to say that they accept the terms of the policy and want to log in.

How do we set up such a pop up window? Can we somehow add it to our existing logon script file?

AJB,
This is easy via Group Policy.

Apply at a default domain policy or local policy for just a specific machine.

Computer configuration/windows settings/security settings/security options
Message Text for users attempting to login.
and
Message title for users attempting to login.

Hope this helps - more efficient that putting into logon scripts and easier to manage.

For anyone who is interested, I have found out how to get a window to pop up to remind users of the company security policy.

It is quite a chore because it requires a change be made to each client - there will be someone out there who can advise of an easier way to get this up and running. I prefer this approach rather than having something in the logon script because by the time the user sees the logon script they have already logged on.

To get create a logon banner on the Win98 clients requires an addition to the registry. I'm sure I do not need to say this, however, all of the usual rules apply when making changes to the registry.

Select the following subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Add the key LegalNoticeCaption and enter the text to appear on the Caption of the Legal Notice using Modify.

Add another key called LegalNoticeText and enter the text to appear on the body of the Legal Notice.

Close Regedit and next time the user logs on they will see the message.
