pop up advertising

made the mistake of downloading morpheus to my 2000 pro machine. went thru the uninstal process but still get annoying pop up adds. do i need to uninstal java webb start or any other programs to eliminate these. i have a pop up stopper but its still blocking adds at an alarming rate of probably 1 or 2 a minute.

Are these popups coming from Internet Explorer or Windows Messaging?

i am not sure how i would know. i was getting all kinds of pop ups and morpheus was not running i dont think i set up windows messaging so it must be from internet explorer.

Download ad-aware from download.com. This would remove all the unwanted spyware that is deep hidden by softwares such as morpheus. And they dont go away even when you uninstall s/w like morpheus.

my two cents...for music/video sharing, download Kazaa. You can uninstall the unwanted programs it comes with, i.e. SaveNow, through the add/remove programs.

Windows Messaging popups say "Windows Messaging" in the title bar. They also usually say Winpopup and are text-only messages.

If this is what you are getting, you must disable the Messaging Service in Win2K in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

Otherwise Ad-Aware should cure you.

You should also consider a firewall such as ZoneAlarm.
