I have an end user that deleted his current id on and 2003 server. At that point he did not remove his old mailbox. He the created a new ID and called it the same as the old ID. He then created a new mailbox. Of course all of his old mail is in his old mailbox with the new ID pointing to the new mail box.

IS it possible to have the new ID point to the oldmailbox in the information store and if so how would you go about that.

Thanks in advance

Not in 2003.
Exmerge the data out of the new one, bin the new one, reattach the old mailbox to the userid and exmerge the data basck in.

Thank you I looked this up and I will try it

It is possible. You have to create the user with the SAME user name then go to exchange system manager, go to the mail box store where the user mail box is and right click it, one option is to reconnect. Thus it will remember the old user name and if it sees the same user name it will reconnect without losing any mail. I've done this before.
