Hello all,
1) Can an existing media server be reconfigured to a new master server? (without re-install...I have 9 media servers to move)
2) I know enough to be dangerous
3) Background:
3a) Master Server is 6.5.6 on Solaris 9
3b) Media Server is 6.5.3.1 on Solaris 10 (confirmed compatibility of two is OK)
3c) Existing fibre tape drives will be removed and new fibre tape drives added
3d) I have no need to restore the old backups
4) Info from Symantec
4a) reconfigure is not recommended; re-install is preferred.
4b) but, all that is needed is updating SERVER= & EMMSERVER= , in bp.conf & vm.conf.
Question: Do the following steps seem reasonable and/or the proper order?
MediaServer: shutdown Netbackup service
MediaServer: Add master server IP info to /etc/hosts
MediaServer: Confirm connectivity to Master server (telnet, etc)
MediaServer: Update ~/volmgr/vm.conf: SERVER=<new master server>
MediaServer: Update ~/netbackup/bp.conf: SERVER=<new master server>, EMMSERVER=<new master server>
MediaServer: At OS, remove original tape drives, add new tape drives
MasterServer: Add media server IP info to /etc/hosts
MasterServer: Add hostname as MediaServer and configure
MediaServer: Start netbackup, confirm operations.
MediaServer/MasterServer: configure new tape drives on media server.
Also is there a command to dump the current media server configuration, prior to this re-config process?
Best Regards,
Ross
