Hello,

I can't import png files! I develope a png file in photoshop and export it over "Web Export" and chose "png 24" + "transparent", then i open premiere 6.0 and go over "Import" + "File", the import file window comes up and i can chose the type of file, PNG is not listed, if i chose "all supported files" then i still can see the png file i want to import .... can someone help me???

I develope the file in photoshop7.0, RGB, 72 dpi, > if i go via "save as" then it say on the bottom part of the save window (where u can chose the file type to save as) there is a warning sign and it says "need to be saved as a copy first"

Don't get it wrong, i still save the file as png but there are warning symbols on the "save as window" on the bottom. one at LAYER and one at TRANSPARENT" and bellow is one with "NEED TO BE SAVED AS A COPY FIRST"

1. can somebody send me a png file (anything) so that i can check that way too ?

2. can somebody explain me the problem?

thanks

??

Huh?

1. Open image in Photoshop.
2. Make sure its in RGB mode.
3. FILE > SAVE AS >
4. Name it to the file you like.
ie frame.png ( if its a multilayer psd, it will prompt saying frame copy.png . just delete copy from the file name )
5. Choose None as your interlace option.

And voila, png file.
And in Premiere, dont use All accepted file formats; from the list box, choose ALL FILES . It will display all the files in that folder.

If your image is a transparent image ( ie you want a transparent background ) make sure your image is on layer 1 without a background. Do the steps above. Import using ALL files to show, and when it will ask if you want to flatten or choose a layer to work from; choose Layer 1. It should appear in your bin.

Just my opinion, but I'd rather use a .tga (targa) file with alpha channels to bring into Premiere. Always works and always looks good.

Yeah, here's another option: you can export a PCT file with some funky shape cut on the alpha channel and see if Premiere can import that, too.

Try all sorts of things until the mechanism works.

That's how i do it but i dont see the file listed. On my premiere is no way which list "all files". Could it be that my premiere 6.0 is damaged? .. but in other ways everything else seem to work good

What other fomat with alpha channel can i use for high quality?

Why not use PhotoShop's native format for files to Premiere? Two Adobe products that handle the PSD format natively.

PSD format files from PhotoShop have Alpha channels and you can import separate layers if you wish.

Once you have the still on V2 with Alpha Matte transparency, you can use the opacity rubber bands to vary the intensity of the overlay.

Expanding the channel will reveal the opacity rubberband. Play with that and see what happens.

If you want to apply an opacity regularly to an entire clip, then hold the cursor over the rubber band and press-and-hold the SHIFT button (I think it's shift, might be CTRL) until the cursor turns to a little horizontal red bar. Then you can click with the mouse and drag the red bar up and down. Your percentage will be reported as you move.
