For those of you who have already done this, how long before you plan to take the PMP Certification exam should you fill out the application? Do you have a certain amount of time after your application is accepted to complete the exam?

Any responses would be helpful.

Thanks.

Hmmmm, it could have been a faulty install. I didn't think about that, but then again, I didn't take the pre-test tutorial either, so I don't know if the review feature was working correctly on that or not. No big deal, its over now, what a relief. ;-)

Good Luck to all,

Joe

Hi All,

I too just passed the exam. Halleluyah! I would like to confirm pretty much everything Jay1000 and Elizabeth have said. As far as adding my two cents....

1. Do not be lulled into a sense of confidence after scoring high on practice exams. My exam was significantly more difficult than the RMC simulation, Kerzner simulation, or even the 2 day prep class simulation I attended conducted by Bill Duncan himself (former PMI standards director). The main difficulty seemed to come from quite a number of situational type questions. In other words, "What would you do if...." type questions. I rarely was able to narrow my response past two seemingly equally good answers.

2. Definitely memorize. For the most part Jay1000 is right on the money with what to memorize.

3. Take at least one (preferably more) 200 question sample exams to get the feel of the process.

4. I recommend that you answer every question as it comes up. Do not leave any blanks to return to later. Just answer them and mark them for review later. That way, if you run out of time, at least you made an attempt to answer.

5. Here is a trick that was helpful to me, note your start time, then, when you have answered the first 50 questions, check the time elapsed. Multiply by 4. If the result shows you will finish in 3.5 hours or less, you know that your pace is good and for some questions you can take additional time.

It is a difficult exam, but, considering what we do in PM, it ought to be.

Best of Luck...

I just passed the exam this week.I agree with others that is was challenging. But, not quite as hard as I expected.

I used the RMC materials and they helped a great deal. I did not take any classes and found my experience helped a good bit.

One mistake I made with could impact people taking the test during the next few months. I downloaded the PMI 50 question test and took it the night before. I got a 65 on the test. Scared the heck out of me. I was unable to sleep all night.

I acutally got an 80 on the test. I realized after taking the test that the PMI samples questions were for the 2000 version. I missed all the questions related to Professional responsibility because they used many terms I did not know or misinterpreted.

As for the exam process, I would take at least three short breaks. I stopped after every fifty questions and it really helped. I realized this when I read a question several times and just didn't have a clue. So, I took a break came back and read the question and the answer was pretty obvious.

Best of luck for those who have not taken the test yet.

I'd like to buy the used RMC material (for the CD, I like
version 4, bedcause I will take the 2002 exam)

Please contact me at:laocanadian@hotmail.com

Thanks

Hi everyone,

After read the postings here, I realized that the year 2002
exam for PMP will be different from the previous one, my
question is: when the new exam will be effective? Jan. 1,2002 or March, 2002 or April 2002? because after I checked
the RMC website, I found that "Please make your selection carefully. The following items are for anyone taking the test AFTER 3/4/2002 ..." and "... BEFORE 3/4/2002"
( it looks
that the effective date will be 3/4/2002...

Thanks for any of your input

Yes, they had problems when trying to add the "professional responsibility' questions to the exam, so they have changed the date several times. Originally it was Fall 2001, then Jan 2002, etc. Keep watching the PMI website ( for the latest official information, as they could continue to put it off! Also the new 'professional responsiblity' material is shown.

Does anyone have pointers to information related to the Ethics portion of the new exam? I ordered a copy of the PMI PMBOK 2000 hoping it would have this material, but nothing is covered.

Anyone used "smart certify direct" ( for PMP preparation?
Theres very little on their site and I'm less than impressed with their customer service so far, but perhaps I have just been unlucky. Experiences of the company most welcome.

Hi Elizabeth,

In the PMP exam they have introduced questions on "Professional Responsibility". Please let me know how to prepare for that part (the material available in the PMP site is too little, I guess).

Is Rita Mulcahy, going to introduce a new chapter in her book to cover that? If yes, when that book will be available. Do you have any idea?

Thanks in advance, for your response.

Regards,

Snowleopard

I just went to a training class in Risk Mgmt (EXCELLENT!) by Rita last week. I saw her new book on Professional Responsibility is already out, and she told me her new version of her CD includes questions on Professional Responsibility too. You can contact her through her website,

Hello !

Is there anyone who has taken up the PMP exam recently (Nov '02) ? Heard that a majority of the questions are based on circumstantial perspective ("what would you do if ?" etc..). Any pointers on where you would get a sample of such questions/ and also any material related to PMP's Professional Code of Conduct ??? Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Best of luck to people taking this exam !
-Anand.
