Hello all, Came from an Avaya background and new to this system. Norstar Plus Compact ICS. System had 4 line keys on all the phones(6 in total). Now line 3 seems to be missing when pressed from a phone. I verified that the POTS line is working and even swapped it with line 4 so it's not a telco issue. How can I verify that the port for line 3 didn't go bad? Is it possible the system lost programming for line 3 but not 1,2 or 4? Can I program it as a line 5 and punch down onto another port and how would I do so? Correct me if I'm wrong but someone told me this is only a 4 line system.

I really appreciate any help I can get on this and want to say thanks ahead of time.

Do you have a line 3 on the phones? F*0 to verify buttons.

I'm not there now but my friend is going to do the *0 feature code to double check. I should have that verified in about an hour. Just seems strange that the programming would disappear on all 6 phones. Assuming *0 shows that it is programmed as line 3 what next? Bad port? Thanks for responding.

Bad port, bad 25 pair, bad punch.

I swapped lines 3 and 4 on the block so not the pair or punch.

just verified. when using F*0 The display comes up 003 Line 003.

Do you mean to say "there is no dialtone on line 3"
or
"there is no line 3 on the phones"?

Because if it states 003 is Line 003 then the line is on the phone but your first post states its not.

You need to verify the true symptom yourself.

There is no dialtone on the key programmed as line 3. I get dialtone on the 66 block and have swapped line three with line 4 on the block to verify it is not a trouble from the CO. I don't know enough about Norstar fix this I have an Avaya background. It is frustrating.

Possible a bad port on the card itself.

Did you skip 2 pairs before terminating line 3?

See our FAQ's page right at the bottom, wiring.

If that seems fine then bring a spare line card and swap it to test.....this will at least narrow it down to the wiring or KSU port.
Also check that the amp cable is very snug to the KSU, even hook up a spare as a test.

It is definitely punched down on the right pairs. I had pulled the card and reseated the card and the amp cable. All seems fine there. I don't have a spare card. This system only has 2 slots on the KSU. I am assuming one is the line card and the other a station card. Are these only 4 line cards? Is it possible to temporarily program a line 5 until I can get a spare card to swap?

I am very grateful for the help that has been given so far.

Thanks to All!

They are both line cards. you can swap the cards and see if the line 3 comes up. If it does it's a card problem if not it's the KSU.

That makes things easy...Thanks! I will try that tomorrow when I get back.

To be clear it can hold 2 line cards (yes 4 lines per card)and 1 slimmer station/service card.
You said it has 4 lines so I assuming you have 1 line card and 1 dummy plate.

Note that the software would have to allow for a 2nd card as well.
Go to Maintenance/SystemVersion and note the SP number then check this FAQ out:

RES is Restricted meaning 4 lines and 8 sets.....it wont take the 2nd line card.
New software is required (SIP) as I dont think you will find a key code to expand the RES software any longer.

It has 2 cards both are NT7MK0D2260A REL02 Global CLID ANALOG TC. I had my friend power down the system and reverse the cards. Line 3 came back up and everything is now working fine. Well....except now the Caller ID is no longer showing up on the stations. I still consider this great progress and thank you all for bearing with me!

Any suggestions on the Caller ID issue that has now popped up?

I will verify with my test set. Can anyone quickly step me through where I would check in the programming. I am finding it difficult to navigate this system. Mainly due to lack of familiarity and partly due to being spoiled using my laptop on other systems. No Fast RAD on this.
