Hi,

I would greatly appreiciate any help you can offer on this one...
I am trying to connect a ADSL modem to my PC. It was happily working on my house mates PC previously...

Initially I connected it and plug and play picked it up - I didn't have any software for it so downloaded and selected a driver (sagem f@st 800). This didn't work.

I then got hold of the proper install CD, went through the install app, then got prompted to plug in the modem. I did this but it didn't respond.

I can find any record of hardware on the device list so I can remove and try again. I can plug and play other USB devices OK.

Can anyone suggest a next step? / Solution?

Thanks

Unplug all usb devices......use a ps2 mouse if you need to until the problem is fixed. uninstall all modem drivers.... reboot system and install drivers again. If this works reboot a second time and plug in each USB device you have one at a time and reboot after each and test the modem each step of the way. If the modem stops working when a certian USB device is plugged in then there is a conflict there.
Update all device drivers if possible and make sure your BIOS is up to date also. One last thing ..... update Direct X which you can DL from microsoft.

I know checking USB devices seems wierd but as an Instructor and tech I have seen USB devices as being the catalyst for many problems....especially with sound, modems and programs using Open GL......

Good luck.

Ken
