Please help,

My IE wont work at all, It brings up the defualt win. page as if it had no connection at all, no URL, links or anything in IE. HOWEVER, AIM, email and telnet work and connect fine.

I ran virus scan and all is clean, also ran Spybot. Reinstalled IE and everything is up to date.

HOWEVER, I have learned that my IE still works, when i am in Windows explorer, or my computer, i can type in a URL and it works fine. I re-installed IE and have same problem.

SO what is the difference between opening a webpage by clicking on IE shortcut, or a link. AND opening a webpage through the active desktop I.E. typeing a URL into a system window.

I believe that this was something done malious to my computer. Please any help that anyone can give i need.

thanks in advance.

Hi

first go to Tools/internet options/connections/settings and untick "connect through proxy server"

Then
Please Download hijackthis from

Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

After the scan has finished the "scan" button will turn into a "save log" button

save the log file and paste it here

Do not delete anything yet, as most things hijackthis finds are harmless and needed.

If you can't download - use another computer to download to a floppy, and run it from the floppy off-line, it's only 150k

I Hope you can make some sense of this THANKS AGAIN!

I saw that line and thought it was a bad sign.. it sounds like when i installed iMesh file sharing it messed up my LSP with its "other" crap software that it installs..

THANK YOU SO MUCH, it works now and i am so glad its fixed.

One quick question, how come i could browse through active desktop, like Windows Explorer, doesnt that need LSP too?

AGAIN THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH..

Eds.

You have just about anything it's possible to get in there.

Run these 2 programs - this will cut your log by more than half - then post a new log and we'll see what's left.

1.run this :-

Then do this :-

Please Download and install SpyBot,

click the online tab to search for and download the updates, then shut down and relaunch SpyBot.

Go to the Settings tab > File Sets, and uncheck 'System Internals' and 'Tracks' .
These aren't needed for our present purpose, and you can always experiment with them later on.

Finally, after closing down Internet Explorer, click 'Check for problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds 'Fix selected problems'

you may have to run spybot more than once to clear everything

Remove everything pre-ticked in Red

Hi all, i has the same problem with IE, need the same fix (socks repairing) and now all works fine. THANX :)

Hi,

After recently uninstalling Norton Antivirus and reinstalling it, I've run into the same problem as initially described above. I can't open Internet Explorer or run iexplore.exe, but I can use the internet through Windows Explorer.

I've run Ad-aware, and Spybot
and recently removed the W32.Gaobot.AFJ virus off my computer.

LSPfix doesnt seem to suggest I need to fix anything.

Any recommendations on how to proceed? Any help would be appreciated!
