I have recently purchased a Plextor 40 12 40 Rewriter but have been having problems with burning. I have install Nero 5.5.7.3 that came with the drive but when I try burning at 24X (The speed of the CDs I've got) it runs both buffers down alot and takes around 9 mins to burn a CD. This is burning directly from a 7,200 HDD not another CDROM Drive, although the problem does arise from CDROM too. I have the CDROM and Plextor on the same IDE cable at present. When Nero completes it states that there were around 160 Buffer Unnder-runs avoided. What can I do to get the most out of my Burner? Any help appreciated!

Slow your burn speed down, and you will probably have less problems and make less coasters..

Thanks for that, but the thing is though that I didn't buy a 40X writer to write a 16X or 8X. I at least want to burn at 24X as I do alot of burning. (On the 24X disk I have). My computer shouldn't have any problems buring at 24X: Here's the spec:

ABIT KG7 RAID
AMD ATHLON 1200
512MB DDR RAM
IBM Deskstar 40GB (5400)
IBM Deskstar 40GB (7200)
Seagate 8.4GB
SoundBlaster 5.1
Ge-force 2 Titanium 64MB

Not a pile of junk so I recon it should be able to handle 24X. Any other ideas are very welcome.

Thanks in advance

Do you have DMA enablen on your Primary/Secondary IDE/ATAPI controllers? They should be enabled - do not use PIO mode. The settings are in device manager.

Thanks for all your help.

Problem solved by selected DMA. My drive kept unchecking this box initially even after reboot but is now fine. Burning disks in 2 mins 30!!! Certainly can't complain at that!

Thanks again for your input!
