Please recommend an All-in-one printer

Hello,

I will need to purchase one of those all-in-one printers (scan, copy, print) for a client. The client runs Windows 2000 and attaches to our Metaframe 1.8, Windows 2000 Terminal server. HOWEVER, I have deep reservations for purchasing a couple reasons:

1) All-in-one products such as these seem to difficult by nature

2) Printers and Citrix are not best friends...

Can any of you recommend a decent All-in-one printer for this situation? Perhaps once that already has a driver on Windows 2000 server by default??

Stick with anything HP, I have had no problems with the 3 HP printers on client machines, whereas Brother and Epson printers have given me headaches.

a few home users at my office use brother all-in-ones.

as long as I mapped the printer drivers correctly, we haven't had any problems with citrix and the brother 8500 mfc and 7300c mfc.

I can't say that I'm crazy about brother...but I haven't gotten any complaints and we can use them to print through citrix. like I said, map the printer drivers and they'll print just fine.

the Universal Print Driver for Metaframe XP is the same as an HP4 I believe. Most printers will accept this bytecode for basic printing only.

The UPDI is a modified "HP LaserJet Series II" driver.
The UPDII is a modified "HP Color LaserJet 4500" driver.

All in one printers with Terminal Services can be tricky to set up. Plus, the USB connection can also cause problems if the printer is set up as a DOT-4.

Here's my suggestions as I've recently set up an HP 5510 and an HP 7130xi.

1. Stick with HP Office Jet printers if you must use and all-in-one. These printers will default to DOT4 and Terminal Server does not support it. There is, however, a workaround that requires this registry change.

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Default\AddIns\RDPDR
On the Edit menu, point to NEW, and then click DWORD Value.
Type FilterQueueType, and press Enter
On the Edit menu, click Modify.
Type FFFFFFFF, and then click OK

This registry change will enable all ports on the client to be redirected.

2. Set up your all-in-one printer locally with the latest USB drivers.

3. In a Terminal Server session, go to printers and Add New Printer. Find your client and add the generic Office Jet printer which will already be in the list of Windows printers. You can change the name on it to match whatever all-in-one you hook up.

These instructions are only valid HP all-in-one Office Jet series USB printers. They may work with other brands, but I've not tried it. Good Luck.
