I am running Apache with RedHat 6.1 through a DSL connection. This works fine but allows me only one static IP and one domain name (zzzz.net). I would like to forward my other domain names (zzzz.com and zzzz.org) to this box but not have them show the primary domain (zzzz.net) in the location (address) bar. Is there a way to set up an alias or other whosie-whatsis so the sub-directory where I have these other domain names forwarded to will show the domain names I want (zzzz.com and zzzz.org) rather than the primary?

The more I do this, the more I realize how dumb I am when it comes to Linux! I have a Red hat Linux Bible but most of the time it doesn't tell me all the tricky little things I want to find out about....

Ok - we are bouncing between dns issues and httpd.conf configuration issues. I will take you up on your offer to take your server. Send me your httpd.conf file and I will edit it for you and send it back. My e-mail is john@nakremodeling.com . The error log is showing some real funky stuff going on with your configuration, which has nothing to do with dns at this point. Apache is saying it can't make heads or tails out of your virtual host definitions when it reads httpd.conf at start up. Once we take care of these problems, we can work on the dns issues.

Thank you! It's on the way. Poor Apache - not only am I confused, I've baffled the server as well (my friends say they don't understand me either so it's not unexpected!).

Thank you for all your help. You have a tremendous amount of patience!

I wanted to say a special thanks to RhythmAce....

It's been an interesting few days. The first step was to commit to an upgrade from 6.1 since it was a bad install to begin with, so I bought 7.2

It appears that my hardware and 7.2 have conflicting values, so it's been an upgrade one version at a time. RA has been there to answer numerous questions and help resolve some very difficult issues. I don't think I'd have made it through a single install without his help!

After an unsuccessful attempt to install 7.2, it soon became obvious that the only solution was to reinstall 6.1. That's a whole book in itself - but it was challenging. The install of 6.2 was simple enough. Upgrading to 7.1 appears to be challenging again and may require a step back to 7.0. I'm not sure we'll make it to 7.2 but enormous progress and improvements have been made even with 6.2!

Once the server upgrade is finished, I'll be back to setting up virtual domains......

Thanks again RA and all the rest of you experts!
