HI,

I have 5 medias of 24 Gb. I can do 2 backup of myarchive in the same media. I want to do 1 backup every day. So I want to use the same media 2 days consecutively. After this 2 days I want to pass to the next media. When the 5 medias are full I want to reinitiate from the first.

What I must do for this? Media Pool? Rotation schedule?

Thx!

This fairly easy to do with a 6 days (even) scheme but difficult with a 5 days (odd) scheme.
What do you intend to use ??

regards

Hi, I have ARCServe 9.01 and HP SureStore DAT24x6 but I have only 5 medias in the magazine. I would use one media 2 times because my data are 10 Gb or I can use the first media on monday and the second time the next monday. Every 2 weeks format the media and reinitiate from zero- What do you think of this?

THX!!

I think this will work for you but you have to create 10 different jobs to achieve this :
format the 5 tapes with the names MONDAY, TUESDAY...FRIDAY and label them the same way if you wish.
Create a job and type in the destination view MONDAY, set it to 'overwrite same media name or blank media' in the backup media options and use the custom schedule. Select 'custom' from the drop down menu , set the repeat interval on 14 days and exclude all days except Monday.
Create this jobs for TUESDAY..FRIDAY
Create a 6th job and type in the destination view MONDAY, set it to 'append media' in the backup media options and use the custom schedule. Select 'custom' from the drop down menu , set the repeat interval on 14 days and exclude all days except Monday.
Create this jobs for TUESDAY..FRIDAY
A lot of jobs but when you set it up this way it will run fully automatical, without intervention and keeps 10 days of data.
However, alsways be careful with tapes that remain in tape devices (for disaster recovery purposes)

hope this helps

regards

Thanks a lot!! I think this could function!! Now I have discover that ARCServe don't see that the SureStore HP DAT24x6 can compress medias and the Item Compression is grayed! Do I must have a tool from HP or there is a problem in ARCServe? It uses the C1557A tape library.

Now I open a new thread for this question.

Thanks!
