I'm going to attempt to install a new DS1 circuit using a TN464GP, and I was wondering what other hardware will I need to make it work.

The circuit is on 4 wire copper used for our Defense Switching Network (DSN). I think I'll need a CSU 120A (please confirm) to connect to the back of the switch. As of now, the circuit will leave our Definity G3si switch thru the 120A CSU to the distant end...am I missing something? What is a smart jack?

Sorry if this is too vague, but I'm still learning.

Thanks for any help regarding installation of DS1 (TN464GP).

Your the only help I have :)

The smart jack is provided by the carrier.

For hardware you will need the Tn464, 120A CSU, and T1 cable.

For software you'll need to add the the DS1 into the PBX...

Is it PRI?

Thanks,
CJH

Thanks for the quick response.

Unfortunately for me the distant end is not a commercial carrier, so there's nobody else to install the circuit on my end.

And yes it is going to be PRI.

Another question...I'm replacing an analog trunk circuit pack (TN 760), so when I take out the old circuit pack, do I just physically take it out of the slot and remove from the switch, then "add new ds1"?

Thanks again.

You need to remove the software translations from the switch first on the CO Trunk pack.

The yes add ds1, add sig x, add trunk x and populate members...

CJH

The board will also need to have the firmware upgraded on it. I would do it before you install it as the firmware upgrades are service disrupting. This should get you through that part.

This site should get you to the newest version for that board.

It looks like FW 18 is the latest greatest for that board.

Post if you need anymore help with this.

Is the smart jack shaped like a little cylinder?

Can the latest greatest firmware already be purchased on the card (I haven't purchased the card yet)?

So once I remove the CO trunk pack software translations from the switch, I remove the circuit pack from the slot?

Next I insert the DS1 pack into the same slot and add ds1, add sig x, add trunk x and populate members...?

Will any of this affect other existing services?

The firmware will more than likely NOT be the latest version. But it is not that bad to load it up.

To remove the old trunk circuit, do I just enter "remove trunk-group 3"?

Can someone confirm that? Where else within the switch would I have to make deletions/removals.

Thanks.

You don't even have to remove it. Just remove the members...

Then build your new trunk group.

You can remove it later once you know you don't need it.

Thanks,
CJH
