Styles are used for replicating design arcoss a document. The paragraph pallette is used for single selections. Bullets & Numbering is included in Style Options. It's the last thing on the list to the left in the options window. You can use that or the flyout from the Paragraph pallette depending on your needs. Bullets & numbering is also availabe in the New paragraph style on the Par styles pallette. ID gives you 3 options. Further, since new Par styles can be based on one already created, including those used in ohter documents, creating new ones, with a change here or there from the other one, is quite easy.
The way ID is organized is very familiar to users of other, preexisting Adobe apps like illustrator, Pagemaker and Framemaker. It's a quick learn for Quark users.
ID is designed as a professional print page layout app. When ID was introduced, Quark had the lion's share of that market. Adobe's Pagemaker had a much smaller share. Illustrator was heavily used for one page docs like ads, box and bag design, etc. No other applications matter in that market since they're not used by any significant number in the market. Users of those apps are the target market and ID has been very successful in that market.
