Is there any hope that Adobe will enable the users to move menu items around at will like Corel or Visio or whatever it was that enabled that? E>G>>>> The Bullets and Numbering selection MY GOD MAN it's located in the fly out for PARAGRAPH and NOT in the fly out for Style Options. So, what who what aliens are Adobe talking with and testing their products with. There is NO END to the irritation caused by CS family. Learning curve is enormous.

Styles are used for replicating design arcoss a document. The paragraph pallette is used for single selections. Bullets & Numbering is included in Style Options. It's the last thing on the list to the left in the options window. You can use that or the flyout from the Paragraph pallette depending on your needs. Bullets & numbering is also availabe in the New paragraph style on the Par styles pallette. ID gives you 3 options. Further, since new Par styles can be based on one already created, including those used in ohter documents, creating new ones, with a change here or there from the other one, is quite easy.

The way ID is organized is very familiar to users of other, preexisting Adobe apps like illustrator, Pagemaker and Framemaker. It's a quick learn for Quark users.

ID is designed as a professional print page layout app. When ID was introduced, Quark had the lion's share of that market. Adobe's Pagemaker had a much smaller share. Illustrator was heavily used for one page docs like ads, box and bag design, etc. No other applications matter in that market since they're not used by any significant number in the market. Users of those apps are the target market and ID has been very successful in that market.

NO YOU CANT use that. That will change ALL the occurances and the entire style. What people need to do is consult the USERS of software to ASK where they should put the various junky features. Clearly, NO ONE would have said but the instant/isolated change function in the PARAGRAPH fly out but the STYLES fly out. Furthermore, the intent of the most is to call out the fact that these companies need to enable the user to MOVE the menu items around like Microsoft does in the tools/options. Locking people into where things are located in a drop down menu is passe and old school thinking.

Sorry for the typoes; doing 100 thing at once just now.

companycmd, you need to know your audience.

Despite anyone's personal faith in the Almighty, I doubt God is going to write software for you.

Likewise, you are addressing fellow users with an apparent rant that cannot be resolved on Tek-Tips. No one here works for Adobe. If you were legitimately interested in requesting a change, you would go to adobe.com and submit a feature request. There is a forum dedicated to InDesign feature requests at
That will change ALL the occurances and the entire style.
You might be missing the logic of styles in a professional page layout app. A style in InDesign can be based upon another style. You simply create a new style, based on your existing style. You do not need to change all occurances of an existing style.

Trust me; I aint missing a thing. The logic of where some of these things are placed is confounding and silly and what's more, everyone I know agrees. Even after using the software for a while, remembering where something is located is, when you finally remember where it is, illogical.

Yes, you are missing the fact that Tek-tips is the wrong place to make a feature request.

This is a new feature for CS2 and was only available in CS1 as part of the optional PageMaker plugin pack. I am confused how Adobe could have listened to users to know where to place this function in your current software release if users had not been previously able to complain about it before.

everyone I know agrees

Many folks have agreeable acquaintences. I recall a time when people agreed it was appropriate to own a slave and inappropriate for a woman to vote. I wonder if everyone you know agrees that Tek-Tips is the best place to submit a feature request to Adobe. You need to meet more people. [bigsmile]

Of course this is the right venue. Adobe people are reading this forum all the time.

Okay, now you are just being silly (and possibly under the influence of drugs). Adobe does not read this forum for feature requests. Adobe has a mechanism already established on their own website for feature requests.

You are listed as an 'instructor' on Tek-Tips. Since you introduced God into this thread, let us pray for your students!
