Please Define the Word 'Bind'

I'm having trouble understanding the concept of databinding and how to use it. I know how to databind a DataSet to a DataGrid. When it comes to binding a property to a variable, I don't understand what I'm doing.

We are drowning in data, but we are starving for information.

When the data in the variable changes, if a property is bound to the variable, then the property will automatically reflect the new data. Just think of the property as a datagrid. As the data changes, the "thing" bound to the data reflects the new data.
