Hi,

Recently, in the A/P module of Platinum for Dos Ver 4.6, tried to run a check register after printing checks, and posting them, and the report never printed.

It gets "stuck" on wait mode before the report is either printed to screen or to a printer. The only way to get out of the screen altogether is to shut down the computer.

I tried running recover on the apdist file and it came up with an error message... init failed on the apdist file the destination file was data.

If anyone has any solutions or how to correct this error I would be greatly appreciative.

thanks,

jctop

Hi jctop,

Running a check report shouldn't even touch the APDIST file. It sounds like you might have 2 problems.

Depending on how much data you have the check report may take awhile. Have you tried running it from other workstations? Have you tried printing one from another company even the demonstration one? The check report I think uses the APTRAN & APTRANH files.

Does running the 'Print & Post distribution report' give an error?

Worse case scenario would be downloading the information & then importing it into another clean APDIST file.

Let me know if I can help. I'm a PFW/PFD consultant working in Michigan.

Hi ceeje,

Thanks for writing back.

I have tried to run the check register report from 2 seperate workstations, and the same problem occurs each time. I've let the report run for up to a 1/2 hour in some cases, and normally it takes less then a minute.

After researching which files the check register accesses I determined that along with the APVEND and APTRANH files, it also accesses the APTRAN file. When trying to correct this problem, I performed a recover on these files and had no errors.

The print and post voucher report gave no errors, and nor did it when I used the demo company, but when I tried to print the check register in the demo company the same problem occurred (report stuck on "wait" mode)?? Does this mean that maybe one of the program files is corrupted??

Also, we run Platinum for Dos off of a Windows NT network, and recently had a norton anti-virus program installed on the same network we run Platinum on. Shortly thereafter, we began to see a message during startup of Platinum that read..."out of environment space". And around that same time was when we started having this problem with the check register. Platinum would go ahead and run even after the environment space message. Also, going thru A/P -> Maint -> Transactions ->Current, Line Item and Dist to G/L, the transactions/checks which were printed did show and were posted according to these files.

After researching the environment space message, I increased the initial environment settings thru Properties->Memory on the Platinum shortcut. The Windows NT server has about 7 GB so I know there is plenty of space on it. I have found out also that sometimes it will give a false message if there is more then 3 GB free space on the server (Platinum documentation). So I'm not sure, if this was the inital cause of the problem or not, but wanted to let you know the steps I've performed to this point.

I really appreciate your help with this, and hopefully the info I've given you here, would help in determining what's going on with this. Thanks again for all your assistance
