If one was planning a hybrid system, should you consolidate your existing cards (digital and analog) in the lower number shelves (in my case, 4 - 0, 4 - 1, 8 - 0, 8 - 1, and 12 - 0, 12 - 1) ? or does it matter? I'm not clear on how the UCx sees the MG-Xpec gateway and shelf, and card numbering. I'm just trying to do some pre-planning and cleanup prior to making a decision on conversion/upgrade. Thank You!

That would certainly create a neater card layout, but remember that part of the beauty of converting a Meridian (or BCM/MICS) into a Digital Gateway is that you can just re-use the existing wiring. You just swap the processor card/SSD, and the existing cards and station ports become appendages of the UCx. Cross connect field is pretty much unchanged.

The most important bit of prep work is to pull the full database from the existing Meridian, so it can be preloaded into your new MG-Xpec. Ideally, that pre-loading happens with your MG-Xpec in a Meridian on your workbench. Get it preconfigured as far as possible (extensions, IP's, UCx connection details).

I guess my question is more of "how are the individual TN's addressed under the MG-XPEC scheme?" I need to consolidate to as few IPE shelves as possible given the 500+ analog devices that I still support. For current redundancy purposes, those are spread over supl cards and shelves so a failure will take out as few as possible. In the UCX world, those will drop down to as few shelves as possible due to the high cost of MG-XPEC units.
I just need to figure out how a l s c u converts to port on the MG/UCX to see how I need to consolidate.

TN's are defined pretty much the same LSCU. Commands will be pretty much the same as well such as the following.
disc loop, shelf, card disable card
disu loop, shelf, card, unit disable unit
dsp_active cabinet Dsps available for cabinet?
dsp_conn cabinet returns the dsp connection server pid
enable_all_audit cabinet enable audit on all digital sets
enable_audit tn enable digital set audit
enllsh loop, shelf enable loop shelf
enlu loop, shelf, card, unit enable unit

Of course the Loop #'s will probably change if you consolidate cabinets. See this link.

Remember, if you have an existing Switch you can reuse your exisitng MG-XPECs. You will need to purchase the EmetroTel compact flash for each.

Hopefully this answers your questions.
